Types of Endowment Funds

You may choose from a variety of special funds that strengthen the Jewish community while responding to your personal needs and your family’s philanthropic goals.

Unrestricted Funds
These funds are not earmarked to a particular program or agency, but are available to the Foundation to support, through its granting process, innovative projects and identified needs within the Jewish community in the Lower Mainland.
Distributions occur when the assets in the fund reach $5,000.

Philanthropic Funds
These donor-advised funds offer the ability to engage in hands-on philanthropy by allowing donors to make recommendations during their lifetime as to how their fund’s distributable income should be directed to the community.  The donor may recommend a distribution to any properly constituted charitable organization, provided its mandate is not contrary to the mandate and goals of the Jewish community.  After their lifetime, a successor of their choice, which may include a family member, may carry on this important legacy.  The Trustees have consistently ratified the recommendations and wishes of donors who hold philanthropic funds.
Distributions occur when the assets in the fund reach $10,000.

Designated Funds
Designated funds give you the option of choosing which organization(s) and cause(s) you wish to support.
Distributions occur when the assets in the fund reach $10,000.

  • Designated Agency Funds – support a specific agency or agencies.
  • Field of Interest Funds – support a specific area of interest that is important to you such as Jewish education, poverty relief, services for seniors or Israel experience programs. Distributions occur when the assets in the fund reach $5,000.
  • PACE – Perpetual Annual Campaign Endowment Funds (PACE), including the Lion of Judah Endowments (LOJE), are established through a bequest and sustain the donor’s gift to the Federation Annual Campaign in perpetuity.
Agency Endowment Funds
Many local Jewish agencies have their own designated endowment funds at the Foundation to support operations and ensure programs and services for enduring generations.
